General Guidelines
1. Pricing & Size
The prices indicated below are approximate for the sizes listed. With watercolours and acrylics (where applicable), this includes the mount.. Sizes are imperial.
16x12 |
£200 |
20x16 |
£320 |
14x14 sq |
£200 |
16x16 sq |
£260 |
18x18 sq |
£320 |
20x20 sq |
£400 |
The price will however, depend upon the complexity of a subject and the amount of detail involved. The listed prices assume that you would allow me to produce prints of the commissioned work. If you would prefer that I did not produce prints of the work then an additional charge of 40% would be applied to the above prices.
Similarly, you should add 40% to the above prices for very specific subjects (such as a painting of your home) or subjects which I anticipate would have limited sales opportunities as I would not be producing prints of such subjects for general sale.
2. Subject matter
Commissions are only accepted for landscape paintings in the broadest sense (this includes buildings.) I do not accept commissions for portraits, pet portraits, animals or still-life. I generally tend to paint Scottish landscapes - this is purely a personal choice - but will consider scenes from beyond Scotland! However, if you have any queries about your proposed subject matter, please do not hesitate to ask me!
You should provide a selection of photographs of your chosen subject for
me to work from. You should, where possible, include a variety of prints
at different angles (and for buildings, a close-up shot which allows me
to see any detail). I may however, have material relating to the subject
in my personal collection of photographs and drawings. Where reasonable, I would also intend visiting the location to undertake work. All photographs will
be returned upon completion of the commission.
3. Media
All commissioned works are currently in watercolour and acrylic.
4. Time
The time taken to complete a painting very much depends upon the work commissioned
and the amount of detail involved. Paintings of buildings can involve considerable
detailed work and would therefore take longer than average. It should be
borne in mind that the time taken is also dependant upon the number of commissions
I have on order at any time and whether any additional research/travelling
has to be undertaken prior to commencing the painting. Any travelling involving
distance e.g., over 20 miles may incur a small additional charge.
Normally you could expect a commission to be completed within a month. This
includes time for mounting of the finished work and where appropriate, printing
of the work. You will be advised at the time of ordering of a realistic
time-scale.
5. Payment
Once you have decided upon a commissioned painting you will be required
to send me a deposit of £40, the balance being payable on completion
of the work, should you be happy with it.
Should you not be happy with the work, I will retain the deposit of £40
until the painting is sold elsewhere. Once the painting has been sold your
deposit will be returned to you without delay.
The deposit of £40 is NOT returnable on certain subjects, e.g., paintings of your home or particularly personal works as I would be unable to sell these subjects to anyone else. This therefore covers the basic cost of materials involved.
The balance outstanding on a painting should be paid upon delivery/uplift/prior to posting.
6. Completion
Once a commission is complete, I will initially advise you by e-mail (where possible) as I can forward you a copy of the work quickly. Should you wish to accept/decline the work at that stage, you can then advise me by return e-mail.
Alternatively, or in addition, I can send you photographs of the work. There is no extra charge for this. For those living within travelling distance of my studio, visits of course would be most welcomed in order to inspect the work. Please however, call me in advance to make an appointment as I am often out researching new subject-matter and would not like anyone to be disappointed should I not be in!
Paintings are finished in single hand-cut mounts. Double mounts can be supplied at a small extra charge (usually between £2-£5 depending on size.)
Arrangements for delivery/uplift/posting will be discussed once you have
approved the completed work. Work will be posted to you upon receipt of
the final balance.
7. Commencing with a commission
Should you wish to commence with a commission, please print off and complete the PDF form available by clicking on the icon at the top of this page. Remember to include a selection of photographs of your subject and send these to me with the order form.
* DO NOT send the £40 deposit yet. I will contact you within a week of receiving your photographs and advise you if the work is possible/practicable from the photos supplied and of the total cost (which includes postage & packing). Once you are advised that I am able to undertake the commission, you should forward the deposit. Work on the commission will begin on receipt of your cheque/postal order. Cheques should be made payable to Linda Grace Originals.
I hope this information has been of help and value to you. Should I have missed out anything or you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thanking you for your interest.
